Shanghai Polytechnic University was founded in 1960 and has traditional strength in engineering education. The university focuses on four academic disciplines: Engineering, Economics and Management, Liberal Arts and Applied Art & Design, and plays an important role in serving the industry and economy in Shanghai and its surrounding areas. Currently, the university offers 38 Bachelor's degree programs, 30 vocational diploma programs and 1 Master's degree program (Environmental Engineering). International students at the university are from over 30 countries in Europe, Asia, America, Africa and Oceania.
The university has one main campus and several branch campuses, with an area of 530 thousand square meters. The main campus is located on Jinhai Road in Pudong New Area, nearby Shanghai Free Trade Zone, Jinqiao Industry Park and Disneyland, and surrounded by many Fortune 500 companies. The university boasts its total floor space of 300 thousand square meters, including a practical training center of 40 thousand square meters and 41 standard laboratories. The university has invested 60 million US dollar in state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and has a comprehensive digital library and computer network service system. Currently, the university has over 12,500 full-time Chinese students (9800 undergraduate students, 2590 vocational students, 140 graduate students), 200 international students, and 6000 continuing education students.
