School Introduction

China Pharmaceutical University (CPU), originally the National College of Pharmacy founded in 1936, was China's first independent school of pharmacy and now developed into the top university of pharmacy in China with a wide variety of specialized programs. It is one of the "211 Project" key universities affiliated to the Ministry of Education of China. Its pharmacy program ranks No. 1 and its traditional Chinese pharmacy program No. 3 in China according to the latest official evaluation from the Ministry of Education of China.

As the host institution of Chinese Government Scholarship students, CPU was one of the earliest institutions authorized by the Ministry of Education to admit full-time pharmacy students (since the 1950s) and visiting scholars from overseas, Honkong, Macao and Taiwan. Now at CPU, there are 13,640 full-time students, including 11075 undergraduates, 2565 postgraduates. CPU now has two beautiful and well-equipped campuses: Jiangning campus and Xuanwumen campus.

CPU consists of 7 schools (School of Pharmacy, School of Traditional Chinese Pharmacy, School of Life Sciences and Technology, School of International Pharmaceutical Business, School of Sciences, School of Continuing Education, and Higher Vocational School of Pharmacy), 3 independent departments (Dept. of Foreign Languages, Dept. of Social Sciences, and Dept. of Physical Education), and 23 key labs and centers at state or provincial levels.

CPU offers 22 bachelor's degree programs, 29 master's programs, 24 doctoral program and 23 post-doctoral programs. There are three national key disciplines: Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutics and two provincial key disciplines - Modern Traditional Chinese Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy.

CPU is equipped with fine and complete facilities for teaching, research and sports and boasts of strong teaching personnel and well-known professors and experts of pharmacy. Among the approximately 1000 faculty members, more than 40% are professors or associate professors. Up to date, the university has undertaken more than 70 research projects financed by the State Key Research Programs Foundation, and more than 300 research projects financed by the National Natural Sciences Foundation of China and the State New Drug Research Foundation. There are also fundings from other national, provincial and municipal departments. Many projects have reached the international level and filled the gaps in the country's pharmaceutical research field.

CPU is also active in international academic exchanges and teaching & research cooperation. It has signed intercollegiate academic exchange agreement with 27 universities and research institutions in the United States, Britain, Italy, Australia, Japan, Belgium, Hong Kong and other countries and regions. Besides, it has established academic links with universities and research institutions in more than 40 countries and regions, Germany, France, Russia, South Korea, Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, just name a few. Up to now, it has educated more than100 pharmacy students including doctors, masters, bachelors and scholars for 60 countries across the world.
