Largest film academy in Asia
BFA(Beijing Film Academy) is the only film academy in China and the largest film academy in Asia with 263 faculty members and 2364 students, including 48 PhD students, 422 graduates, 1894 undergraduates and 84 overseas students.


Our teaching philosophy celebrates “technical mastery fostering artistic vision”. For decades, BFA has educated thousands of China’s movie practitioners. Over half of all China’s directors, cinematographers, art designers , sound engineers,etc, currently active in China’s vibrant film industry are BFA graduates. China’s highest international film awards at festivals such as Cannes, Berlin and Venice, have been won by globally recognised BFA alumni including directors Xie Fei, Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Jia Zhangke, Wang Quan’an, and photographers Gu Changwei, Zhao Fei, etc.


World-class teaching and production facilities
BFA has four professional studios equipped with state-of-the-art production equipment from leading industry suppliers such as Arri Alaxa, Arri Lights, Kino Flo, Panther, Steadicam, and post-production equipment from Quantel and Da-Vinci. Our extensive professional library covers an area of 2057 square meters with an up-to-date collection of 325,600 books and almost 2000 Gigabytes of E-books.


International exchange and cooperation
BFA actively promotes international exchange and cooperation. In 1984, BFA became a full international member of association of the world's major film and television schools association CILECT (Centre International de Liaison des Ecoles de Cinéma et de Télévision). In 1988 BFA was elected as a council member or CILECT, and in 2002, BFA’s International Dean was elected as Executive Chair of CILECT’s annual meeting in the Asia-Pacific region.


In November 2008, BFA successfully hosted the "2008 CILECT Congress", attracting more than 200 presidents and delegates of nearly 100 member institutions from 48 countries. BFA has established cooperation and exchange agreementswith nearly 30 films institutions from over ten countries and regions, featuring film professional education, academic research, teacher exchange visits, creative design and many other film making topics. Thirty-eight domestic and international film makers and expert film production and theory scholars have been hired as visiting professors and part-time professors at BFA.


In November 2012, BFA held its 11th International Student Film and Video Festival. Since 2001, BFA has annually chosen 80 works from nearly 1,000 sumbitted student works from more than 50 countries to participate in the festival with a week of screenings in Beijing. This amazing festval is now the largest and most influential international student film festival in Asia.


According to the Hollywood Reporter, BFA has been ranked third amongst the world’s film academies for two consecutive years.


First recruitment of international undergraduates
The BFA School of Cinematography will recruit international students from 2013. The course is open to students from all over the world and is taught in English. We provide international students with an advanced production environment. We welcome young people from all over the world who love film, and want to develop professional industry arts and skills together with Chinese students.
